I am interested in attending your TEFL Certification program in Samara/ Herdia, CR area. Currently, I am a New York City Public School High School Teacher, planning to take a leave in September 2011. I will need accommodations for myself, my three year old son, two cats, and a dog once we are residing in CR. I already have pet travel information and child care information while I am attending the TEFL program and teaching.

    • CRTEFLadmin says:

      Hi Esteban,

Thank you for contacting us. We generally hold our courses at the Playa Samara campus as most of our teachers prefer to train at the beach then move to the city to begin working. As you might know, the majority of the EFL jobs are in the central valley. We place a number of our teachers in language schools in Heredia and San Jose so if you like, we can pass on this information regarding your apartment. Please feel free to contact us for further information. Thank you!

      Pura Vida, CRTEFL!

  5. Rob Evans says:

My wife and I are planning to retire to CR in two years. She has been a high school English teacher for 20 years. We have been talking about her getting a TEFL certification in case she wants to still teach in CR. I understand as a pensionaire she can not work. Our plan is to seek residency after two years. So, I am wondering would it be better to wait to get the TEFL certification after we become residents? Does the certification need to be renewed annually? I am just trying to figure out the best timing.

    • CRTEFLadmin says:

      Hi Rob,

Thanks for you interest in our program. Our TEFL certification is highly regarded when looking for a career in teaching English in Costa Rica. Our certification never expires, and we offer endless support after having completed the course. It is a great idea that you are looking into residency, this is something many people look into once they are in Costa Rica. If you have more questions, please contact us at info@costaricatefl.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

  6. Sarah says:

I am interested in obtaining my TEFL. I have been doing a lot of research on different options. How many hours certification do you receive through this program? And do you have a practicum? Thanks!

    • CRTEFLadmin says:

      Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your inquiry. Our TEFL course is intensive and covers 160 hours of training over 4 weeks. The course will enable you to teach English as a second or foreign language here in Costa Rica or anywhere in the world. If you would like to speak to someone over the phone more in depth about your specific situation we will be in the office next week between 12:00pm and 6:30pm (Costa Rican Time) and our number is: +506-2656-2362.

During the course you will learn a variety of teaching methodologies and techniques and teach at least 8 hours of classes while being observed by your TEFL trainers and peers. You will not teach in a local school, rather the local students come to our facility to receive free English classes. After each teaching session, trainees receive feedback on their teaching performance. You will also learn to create effective lesson plans, communicative activities for every level and learn about learning styles and multiple intelligences.

In addition, you will learn to create activities in the four skill areas (listening, reading, writing and speaking). You will also create a portfolio to be used both in your future classroom and in the interview process. We also aid in job placement and the interview process which we will begin during the course. Most of our applicants have been placed in local language schools in the central valley. Our job placement assistance does not end when you graduate, you can contact us in the future and we will help you in the necessary steps.

Please feel free contact our past graduates at: http://costaricatefl.com/more-about-tefl-and-the-school/testimonials/ or on facebook, Costa Rica TEFL.

Please let us know if you have any further questions and if you would like us to send you an application.

      Thanks,

    Hello,

I’ve been reading your website with interest, all sounds very good! I do have one question though.

Which board accredits this course? Is it a CELTA course?

    Thanks,

    Rebecca

  8. Sam says:

Hi, I was wondering if you must make a deposit to reserve a place in the program?

    Thank you.

    • CRTEFLadmin says:

      Hi Sam,

Thanks for your interest. We do require that our students make a
deposit of half the course cost at least 2 weeks before the
course begins. The remaining half can be paid upon the first day of
      class.

Please let me know if you have any further questions regards our
program or if you would me to send you an application.

      Best,
      Administrative Coordinator

  9. Sam says:

That sounds great. Is mailing a check the best way? You won’t take a debit card over the phone?

    • CRTEFLadmin says:

      Hi Sam,

Thanks for your interest. If you are considering attending our course, please submit the application along with a letter of reference and resume. Once these documents are received, we may begin to discuss payment. Free feel to email your inquiries to info@costaricatelf.com

      Thank you.
