Just so you know, I ended up finding a part-time EFL job with Berlitz in Palo Alto (near Stanford University). The training I received at Costa Rica TEFL has really helped me be a better teacher, so my hat is off to you, Dana and Julia. You probably remember that I already had a full-time high school teaching job in economics and statistics, but I have to say that teaching older students at Berlitz is much more rewarding.

Grad update: Hear from a graduate teaching in Nicoya, Costa Rica!

“I completed the CR TEFL course last September and was lucky enough to receive a teaching position at La Universidad Nacional in Nicoya, Costa Rica shortly thereafter. The program head of the English department contacted Barbara to inquire for English teachers and she was kind enough to put us in touch. I am now teaching two days a week at the university for Business majors and the community. I am also teaching private English lessons through Intercultura Language School here in Samara and will begin teaching online in the coming weeks. I’m still living in the beautiful beach town of Samara and still loving it as much now as eight months ago when I first arrived. It took a lot of time and hard work to be able to support myself in an area where so many people from around the world strive to live but every moment was rewarding. I know wake up every morning to horses grazing in my front yard and the view of waves crashing in the distance. I must credit CR TEFL for opening the door for me to live in a gorgeous place doing what I love.

Lindsay studied with us in Playa Samara in January 2010. Afterwards she moved on to work for Del Sol magazine out of Playa Samara. After her return to the USA, she successfully published her own digital magazine, Native Foreigner. Hello CR TEFL!

Since September I have been working at Idiomas Mundiales. They have three Central Valley locations – Paseo Colon, Belen, and Barva. I work at the Barva school. It’s a great place to work! The owners also teach there and give plenty of help with lesson planning (in fact, most of the lesson planning is already done, but you’re free to add your own tweaks as you wish). Class sizes are small, the curriculum is sound, and it has a nice small school atmosphere. I’m very happy to have landed here!

Happy 2012!

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I was in Samara taking your TEFL course. Right now I’m living and working in Cambodia with the Peace Corps with the primary assignment of English Teacher and Teacher Training. What I learned from Costa Rica TEFL has definitely proved valuable to my life here. Yet I do wish I had more resources readily available. Remind your students to really appreciate all the supplies you provide them, because those won’t always be available wherever they may teach!

Just wanted to say thanks again for an amazing course and overall experience!

Grads around the WORLD! Hear from one who was teaching in Ecuador!

Sally studied with us in Feb. 2010 and she was recently “TEFLing” in Cuenca, Ecuador. Her days there were filled with creating reading and writing projects, homework, quizzes, mid terms and final Exams. She taught an average of 12 students and sometimes as many as 25. Her students got to watch some vampire movies and they prepared a comic strip project during their finals week!

Sally also had her fill of authentic Ecuadorian lunches that consisted of soup, rice, beans and meat for only $1.50! Markets there are filled with typical wares and local fruits. During her free time she enjoyed trips to nearby villages like Vilcabamba, where horse is still the main transport. How interesting!

It seems as though she had a wonderful time in Ecuador and we are excited to learn how she continues to use her TEFL training!

Happy New Years from Costa Rica TEFL!

We were very fortunate to meet so many wonderful people in 2011. Each and every group was a treat to have with us here. We have graduates TEFLing (or that have TEFLed) in:

We are very proud of them. Also because of the resources we offer to current students and graduates, along with the intimate class sizes during our courses we maintain close contact with most TEFL grads!

Today we have a new group here with us in Playa Samara. It is just the first day, and we are still breaking the “ICE” and working on grammar exercises, but it is easy to see that this group as a dynamic, and we are ready to see how they flourish.

CR TEFL- your ticket to see the world, starting in Costa Rica

Monday here at CR TEFL is always an exciting day. It is the beginning of the week, everyone is well rested after their fun filled weekends spent traveling in lovely Costa Rica, or taking a surf lesson and relaxing in Playa Samara.

It is also fun to check the messages and hear from past students, many of whom are teaching in Costa Rica or in other countries. We just recently heard from a past student, Sally, who has been teaching in Ecuador for sometime. She told us about her classroom experience and about fun projects, like creating a comic strip with her students. We also heard about the beautiful country side and the mountains she has climbed. We know that she is happy there and she attributes her success to her time here at CR TEFL.

We also have more success stories about a recent graduate and a soon to be graduate (this Friday) and their job offers in Costa Rica. Both have been offered great positions in not so typical places. Megan will be heading to Esparza, Costa Rica. There she will be in a traditional private school teaching advanced English to two groups (6-8th grades and 9-11th grades) as an employee of Amerikanos Estudios, a decidedly non-traditional cultural center. We are excited to get updates about her time there!

Our other successful student, Jena, has been offered a position in the Osa Peninsula, the other peninsula on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. She’ll be heading to Puerto Jimenez to teach Elementary English and Math. Puerto Jimenez is a rural city, in a beautiful and natural part of Costa Rica. We know she is going to love it there!

Other soon to be graduates are looking into volunteering at a sustainable community here called Rancho Margot by Lake Arenal and the famous Volcan Arenal. Mark has accepted a position and will start in mid-January!

We are very proud of our graduates who continue to put their CRTEFL certificate to work, whether they are in Costa Rica or anywhere else in the world!

Halfway through the 3rd week!

Here are CR TEFL we are already halfway through our 3rd week of the Nov-Dec program. That means our students only have a week and a half to go, which equals to 5 more classes this week and 8 more classes next week and then we have a new group of Costa Rica TEFL graduates!

It is really amazing how time flies, especially when you are having fun. Here are CR TEFL we give our students the foundations to create great lessons. Then it is up to our student teachers to put their personal touch into each and every lesson. It is always fun to see how our students continually improve throughout the course.

There are 13 classes left in this session and we expect the best from each and everyone one of our student teachers. Everyone has their own style and personal expression and that is what makes us all unique and fun teachers. The personalization that the instructor brings to the class is what intrigues the students and keeps them coming back.

We even have a recent graduate, who began as an English student (here at CR TEFL with our student teachers), improved to the advanced level, then became recently took the course and has become TEFL certified. Even after his certification, he continues to come to our classes. He knows that here he will have exposure to creative and different English lessons as well as an English ONLY classroom experience. These are just a few facts that let us know we are doing a great job.

It is exciting to see where our newest graduates will go. It is a big world out there and Costa Rica TEFL is your ticket to see the world!

It is good to be a TEFL graduate!

We are proud of our students and of all of our graduates. We have meet and taught so many great people in the last couple of years, and it is always great to hear about the job opportunities (as well as life experiences) that our TEFL grads are offered after our course. We have graduates teaching all around the world, and many here in Costa Rica.

As of yesterday we found out that one of our September graduates found a job in Nosara Costa Rica. Our list continues to grow because today we found out that one of our recent graduates along with one of our current students have been offered a job teaching English in Heredia Costa Rica. Their hard work is paying off. We know they will do a wonderful job, and we are anxious to see some pictures of them in action!

We are excited to see where these opportunities take them, and we are proud to know that they started here! Good luck Sonya, Megan and Charlotte And to every other graduate, you know we are here if you need us.
