Where is Samara Beach?
Samara Beach is located in the lush Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Samara is surrounded by neighboring beaches like Buena Vista and Carrillo. Samara Beach or Playa Samara, has become a destination spot for tourists and aspiring English teachers alike. The town of Samara has a lot to offer, and if you have the chance to come to this region of Costa Rica, Samara is a must visit for many reasons.
What is it like in Samara Beach town?
Samara is a very unique beach town that resonates with anyone who comes. There is a small town feel that is inviting and memorable. Samara Beach is within walking distance to every location in Samara which makes beach days very enticing. Every day, visitors and locals can choose from a variety of locally owned places to eat such as beachfront Sherriff Rustic Soda, Las Olas or Soda le Perla or Casa Esmeralda on the edge of town. If you are wanting an after work or beach day cocktail, Angler’s or Heritage Bar have you covered. Samara has all the essentials between its three main supermarkets: Pali, Rindemas, and Super New China . If you’re looking for a locally owned market, try Iguana Verde or Super Dolfin. Samara is a place that has something for everyone.
Places to stay in Samara
When it comes to lodging, there are a wide range of different types of stays one might choose when coming to visit Samara. Depending on your budget, a traveler might choose to stay in a hostel or a hotel or even an Airbnb while staying in Samara. There are some fancier hotels here in Samara ranging from 4-5 stars which include the Samara Palm Lodge, Villas Kalimba, Samara Pacific Lodge, or a high end choice like Hotel Azura (a little outside of town). The Samara Palm Lodge ranges from about $100-200 USD a night and a place like Hotel Azura costs about $400 a night. There are plenty of places to rent in Samara through Airbnb and these can be a bit more private and fairly priced, for families looking to rent. The Airbnbs here are often owned and maintained by locals and people who moved to Samara. An example of an Airbnb here are the Cottages located in the center of town and they can be rented out for longer durations from $1400 a month (this is roughly $50 a night). Budget travelers might choose to stay in the Blue Iguana, Woodstock Hostel, or Marisol hostel which are 3 to 5 star hostels located in Samara and they can be found to rent for dorm rooms or separate rooms. These three places can cost anywhere from $30 -$80 USD per night. Samara truly has a place for every type of traveler and visitor which adds to its inviting and inclusive nature.

From friendly matches of beach volleyball on the weekend to an authentic fishing trip experience, Samara never runs out of fun activities for all! Choco’s surf school located near the Samara sign right on the beach is open for surf lessons and surfboard rentals 6 days a week.
