Liberia, which is a two-hour taxi ride to Samara, is the closest international airport to our beautiful beach town. If you choose to fly into Liberia, we are happy to arrange for a taxi or shuttle to pick you up at the airport and bring you directly to your accommodations in Samara. Taxi rides from Liberia to Samara generally cost between $110-120 and shared shuttle rides range from $50-90.
The Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose is the largest airport in Costa Rica. Although there are more flights into this airport, San Jose is located 5 hours from Samara. As a result, we recommend taking the Alfaro bus or Interbus from SJO to Sámara. We can also help you arrange a taxi, the cost is about $220-250.
The Alfaro bus station is located in downtown San Jose and leaves for Sámara daily. The company is called Empresa Alfaro but we suggest you use Mibus to find times (usually 12pm and 3pm) and book your ticket. The cost is about 5450 colones ($10.00). Those that choose to take Alfaro are urged to arrive AT LEAST one hour prior to departure since seats quickly fill up. For more information, feel free to email us.
Private shared Shuttles:
Interbus and Tropical Tours are shuttle services that will pick you up at your hotel or SJO and drop you off in Sámara. These shuttles generally leave around 8:00 a.m. daily and cost $55. For additional information or to book your seat, please click below:
